Join us at the chess pocket park near Steinberg Skating Rink in Forest Park for an exciting performance by Mattie Schell of Saint Louis favorite the River Kittens and JD Simo, the guitar wizard behind Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis movie soundtrack. The performance will feature rock, soul, and country music, including songs from Schell's solo album and covers by Elliot Smith, Neil Young, Aretha Franklin, and Gillian Welch.
As a guitarist, songwriter, and producer/engineer, Simo has worked with Jack White (Beyoncé Lemonade sessions), Phil Lesh, Luther Dickinson, Cowboy Jack Clement, Dave Cobb, Chris Isaak, and Baz Luhrmann.
Mattie Schell has an effortless way of weaving between country, soul, indie, and rock. After an almost decade-long stint in the River Kittens, Mattie is excited to share her solo debut album, And So It Goes. Fans of Mama Cass, Janis Joplin, and Susan Tedeschi will find her record a fresh new addition to the canon.
